Does the DOT physical include a drug test?

No. The DOT physical does not include a drug or alcohol test. However, it does include a urinalysis that screens for protein, blood, sugar, and specific gravity to check for underlying medical conditions.

Drug and alcohol testing is a separate requirement handled by your employer.

How long does the exam take?

A DOT physical exam generally takes m to complete. While often quick, the duration may extend up to an hour depending on your medical history and if any additional testing or documentation is required.

What can disqualify me from passing a DOT physical?

Certain medical conditions can disqualify a driver, including uncontrolled high blood pressure (180/120 or higher), severe vision or hearing impairment, untreated sleep apnea, and a history of certain cardiac conditions.

Many conditions do not automatically disqualify you. If a condition is well managed, the examiner may still certify you, sometimes with a shorter certification period.

Is the DOT physical the same as a CDL physical?
